This dove is endemic to Kosrae in Micronesia. A 2016 study calls it the Kosrae Fruit Dove and describes it as a common resident on the island.
The Micronesian form in the paper has a broad yellow tail-tip band, yellow-tinged head and breast, and a deep purple to black belly patch. The paper also records a brownish-red patch in hernsheimi.
Its calls are a constant sound in rainforest, but the birds are hard to see except in flight. The study found higher density in rainforest than mangroves, increasing with elevation up to about 400 m.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
