A yellow-and-brown bird that feeds on seeds of trees and grasses.
Males have more yellow plumage, while females have more brown and white areas.
Researchers compared up to 36 years of Swedish Eurasian Siskin counts for breeding, migration and wintering with seed crops of spruce, Scots pine, birch and alder. Breeding counts were somewhat higher with larger spruce, birch and alder crops, but the highest counts sometimes came in low-crop years. The link with spruce was weaker than earlier accounts suggested.
Wintering counts were strongly associated with larger spruce, birch and alder crops. Migration counts had no strong association with crop size but increased with breeding population size. Scots pine crop size had no effect in any season. The seasonal counts therefore showed different links with the four tree crops.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
