The Himalayan Cuckoo breeds in eastern Asia and moves from Southeast Asia to northern Australia for the winter. Males are gray, with white spots on the underparts.
The male has gray upperparts and rows of white spots below rather than broad black bars. Some females are rufous-brown with dark barring.
Research in Taiwan reports that its breeding song differs from that of the Oriental Cuckoo and is associated with territory defense and mate attraction.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
