A small bird that searches dense foliage around treefalls and forest edges in Amazonian terra firme forest. The male has striking black, yellow, and white markings.
About 12 cm long, the male has a black crown bordered by a yellow supercilium and broad white bars on black wing coverts. The throat and underparts are bright yellow with sparse black breast streaks; the female is duller.
It forages through dense foliage at treefalls and forest edges in terra firme forest.
