The Lombok flying fox occurs on volcanic islands from Lombok to Alor. A specimen study described two subspecies whose collar fur differs between the western and eastern islands.
The collar across the neck, base of the head, throat, and upper chest was described as darker cinnamon in the western subspecies and cream to buff-yellow in the eastern form.
A 1987 study of ten fruit bat species in four areas of Lombok found that this species' pollen diet appeared distinct from that of smaller species.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
