A rat with long, harsh fur mixed with spines, it inhabits mountain forests of Borneo and is active on the ground.
Stiff, spine-like hairs are mixed through its softer coat.
Surveys conducted in 2012–2013 recorded captures on Mount Kinabalu and Mount Tambuyukon.
The tail is dark brown above and yellowish white below.
The feet are white, long, and narrow.
