A small waterside heron found in Brazil around lakes, rivers, estuaries, and mangroves.
Adults in Brazil have bluish tones in the plumage. Immatures have mottled plumage, and the yellow area between the eye and bill is present from an early age.
Its broad feet and light body let it walk on floating vegetation, where it waits for small fish. It also sometimes places insects on the water to lure fish.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
