The Chilean Seaside Cinclodes is endemic to Chile and mainly uses rocky shores, sometimes foraging on sandy beaches. It uses marine foods but has also been reported drinking fresh water.
It has dark smoky-brown upperparts, a pale buff eyebrow, paler streaked chest and belly, and a white throat and neck sides. A cinnamon wing band shows in flight; the bill is black and curved.
It nests in cavities on rocky coasts, lining them with plant material such as algae. Records mention small crustaceans and mollusks, but its diet is poorly studied. The profile says it apparently lacks a salt gland and reports fresh-water drinking as part of its water balance.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
