The Perija Metaltail is a small hummingbird restricted to the Perija Mountains on the Colombia–Venezuela border.
The male has a dark coppery back, a bright green crown and throat, and a reddish-brown to reddish-purple tail.
At high elevations it feeds on nectar and searches among frailejones for arthropods. It perches on exposed branches along forest edges and sometimes calls from there.
Males have fluffy white feather tufts around the thighs and black bills and legs.
Among specimens from the Perijá Mountains, wing length was 60.1–65.9 mm in 14 males and 54.8–57.0 mm in five females.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
