A gray kestrel with a pale head, rump, and underwing that stand out in flight. It ranges widely across sub-Saharan Africa.
Its head, rump, and underwing look pale in flight. The eye-ring and base of the bill are bright yellow.
It uses exposed perches in savanna, grassland, and lightly wooded areas, including palms and baobabs, to watch for prey. It takes small animals and insects, often swooping down from a perch.
