The Ant-eating Chat is a dark brown bird with striking white wing feathers in flight. It is found mainly inland in southern Africa and searches for ants and termites on the ground.
Its plumage is dusky brown, with conspicuous white primaries in flight. Males are slightly darker than females and have white shoulder patches; females lack them. Juveniles have a rufous wash and less white in the wings.
It searches for prey by hopping or running on the ground, or dropping from a perch. It mainly eats ants and termites, along with other insects and arachnids; it also eats berries in season.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
