This hummingbird inhabits wet montane forest from Central America into Colombia and Ecuador. Its green plumage differs between sexes, and it takes nectar from long flower bracts.
Both sexes have iridescent green plumage. The male has a purplish-blue throat spot that can be hard to see; the female has a white underside streaked with green and a less deeply forked tail.
Most of its diet is nectar, taken from long flower bracts on vines such as Marcgravia. The account places it in wet subtropical and montane forests and forest edges.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
