Koford’s puna mouse has been recorded in the eastern Andes of southern Peru. Its coat is darker than that of its close relative P. lemminus, and its known localities lie in the wetter “Wet Puna” region.
A 2015 species account describes the coat as darker overall than that of the close relative P. lemminus, with less contrast between the upper and lower parts.
The original description places the three known localities on the eastern Cordillera, whose puna is classified as the wetter “Wet Puna.”
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
