This shrew was collected in montane forest fragments in southeastern Kenya. The 2004 paper labels the sample Suncus (lixus) aequatorius and says it is probably distinct from S. lixus.
Among the ten males measured under the name Suncus (lixus) aequatorius, mean head-and-body length was about 76 mm and mean tail length about 57 mm; the tail was shorter than the body.
The small sample labelled Suncus (lixus) aequatorius was caught during an eight-month survey of 13 forest fragments in southeastern Kenya.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
