This tyrant flycatcher breeds in the southern Yungas of Bolivia and forages from the forest mid-levels to the canopy.
Males show few obvious pale wing bars and have a pale lower mandible. Females have a stronger olive wash, buff wing bars, and a light yellowish belly.
It occurs alone or in pairs in mid-levels and canopy of semi-humid to humid Yungas forest. It gleans arthropods and fruit and sometimes catches insects in flight.
