This spinetail is widespread in lowland southern and eastern South America. A 2024 specimen review found no support for treating the reported plumage variation as geographic subspecies and recommended a single species.
The crown is olive with a terracotta cast, the forehead olive-brown, and a pale line runs above the eye. Belly color varies among specimens, but the 2024 review found no geographic differentiation.
Reported habitats include riparian thickets, marsh edges, secondary scrub, and open lowlands with scattered trees.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
