The Great Sparrow is a relatively large sparrow with a streaked back. In Namibia it searches trees and the ground for seeds and insects.
Its tawny back is streaked with blackish marks; the tail and flight feathers are dark gray-brown. The chin and throat are black, while the rest of the underside is whitish.
It uses Acacia-dominated woodland and shrubland, foraging in trees and on the ground for seeds and insects. In Namibia it is often seen alone or in pairs at waterholes and builds a thick, rounded grass nest.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
