This hummingbird occurs in the Cajas highlands of Ecuador. A local guide describes it visiting Chuquiragua flowers and records different head and belly colors in males and females.
In the Cajas account, the male has an iridescent blue cap, a white chest and belly, and a black stripe running down the center from chest to belly. The female has a greenish-brown cap and a mostly brown belly.
In Cajas, it visits flowering Chuquiragua shrubs and flowering Puya plants. The guide also records it perching beside flowers while feeding.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
