A black chest band marks the breeding plumage of this small prinia. In Namibia it searches for insects among branches and leaves in dry acacia scrub and other shrublands.
The black chest band appears in breeding plumage; outside that plumage it is absent and the underside is tawny-yellow. The upperparts and long graduated tail are brown. It is 14 cm long and weighs 9 g.
Both sexes spend about 12 days building a pear-shaped nest from thin green grass leaves. Females lay 2–6 eggs from August through May; incubation lasts 12–15 days.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
