This antpitta lives on the forest floor from Central America to northwestern Colombia. It moves through dense undergrowth and searches leaf litter for small animals.
It is about 13–14 cm long, with a gray head and back, russet tail, ochre streaks on the breast, and white throat and belly.
It searches for small invertebrates on the forest floor and among dense undergrowth. A nest and nestlings have been reported in Costa Rica, but breeding observations are still limited.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
