This tanager occurs in mountain forests of Colombia and Venezuela. It has a rufous head, gray back and tail, and gray to whitish underparts.
The head is rufous, the back and tail are gray, and the underparts are gray to whitish. Females have a paler throat and stronger buff tones on the lower body.
A study in the upper Río Frío Valley of northern Colombia reported two birds joining mixed-species flocks along a premontane forest edge. This is an observation from one valley, not evidence that the species always travels in flocks.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
