The San Quintín kangaroo rat lives on a small coastal plain in Baja California, Mexico. It was rediscovered in 2017, and later surveys confirmed its presence.
It has a heavy body and small ears. The upper fur is pinkish buff, and the tail has dark stripes and a tuft at the tip.
In a 2024 study after its rediscovery in 2017, researchers found it in open places with little grass and on some abandoned farmland.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
