This small ground-foraging bird lives in dry scrub in Argentina, Bolivia, and Paraguay. It feeds on arthropods and usually forages alone.
It is about 16 cm long and has a long, slightly down-curved bill. Adult nominate birds have dark brown faces and backs, with a faint orange-rufous line above the eye.
It eats arthropods and usually forages alone, gleaning prey from the ground and possibly low vegetation. Dense scrub and deciduous woodland are used in the Chaco Basin; the western subspecies also uses shrub-covered foothills.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
