Richardson's Ground Squirrel is a ground-dwelling squirrel of the northern Great Plains. It digs underground burrows and hibernates through the cold season.
It has a stout body and short, dense fur. The back is pale pinkish or cinnamon buff with a mottled pattern, while the underside is lighter. A light eye ring contrasts with darker fur on the sides of the head.
It digs burrows with multiple entrances, passages and chambers. It hibernates underground, losing body mass during the dormant season, then emerges to forage during the warmer months.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
