The Chihuahua pocket mouse is a small rodent of dry country in northern Mexico and the southwestern United States.
The buff back is sprinkled with black hairs, giving it a brown or greyish appearance. The belly, underside of the tail and terminal tuft are white. The rump has thin, elongated hairs rather than stiff spines.
It is often found on soft, sandy alluvial soils and favors desert scrub, though it has also been recorded in grassland and riparian areas.
It is active at night and feeds mainly on seeds, eating grasses when seeds are scarce.
The sole of the hind foot is pale pink or white and is bare as far as the heel.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
