The Spectacled Eider is a sea duck whose breeding-plumage male has a green head and round white patches around the eyes. It breeds along Arctic coasts and gathers in openings in Bering Sea ice in winter.
In breeding plumage, an adult male has a green head with round white eye patches, a white back, and a black chest, belly, and tail. An adult female is brown, with lighter brown patches around the eyes.
During the nesting season it dives and dabbles in ponds for aquatic insects, crustaceans, mollusks, and plants. Outside that season it moves to the sea and dives for mollusks and crustaceans on the seabed.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
