This tanager lives in mountain forests from Mexico to Panama. Adult males are orange-red and females are yellow, and the birds search for food in the canopy.
Adult males are fiery orange-red, while females are mainly yellow. Both sexes have streaked upperparts and white wing bars.
In mountain forests it gleans insects and berries from foliage high in the canopy, sometimes descending to low shrubs or the ground. It may feed alone, in pairs, or in mixed-species flocks.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
