Humblot's Heron is a large heron of shallow waters in western Madagascar and the Comoros. Its dark gray plumage is distinctive.
The plumage is dark grey overall, with a black feathered mask extending from the head to the nape and a black chin. The irises are pale yellow, and the bare lores are greyish green. Males and females have no conspicuous plumage differences.
It waits motionless in shallow water and catches fish and crustaceans. A study in Madagascar recorded colonial nesting sites, while some birds were seen alone.
Juveniles have a dark grey head mask, a white throat, and a greyish-yellow bill.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
