This rat is known from the mountains of Palawan Island. It has long, dense, dark chocolate-colored fur, and its limited records leave much of its natural history unknown.
Its coat is long, dense, glossy and chocolate brown above, with darker gray-brown fur below. The original description also notes pale tips on chest hairs and a dark tail.
It is thought to inhabit high mountain forest, but records are scarce. Its diet and daily activity have not been well documented.
