This hummingbird occurs on the western slope of the Andes from western Colombia south to southwestern Ecuador. A South American Classification Committee proposal describes its habitat as a humid, Choco-type Pacific-slope distribution.
The upperparts and abdomen are grass-green; the throat, chest, and small patches behind the eyes are white. Small lilac-blue feather tufts sit on the sides of the neck, and the green tail has a dark metallic band near its tip.
It uses humid forest on the Pacific slope of the western Andes. The South American Classification Committee proposal describes this western form as having a Choco-type distribution and wetter habitat than the related eastern form.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
