This cuckoo occurs only on Cocos Island off western Costa Rica, where it uses humid forests and shrubland.
It has greyish-brown upperparts, buff underparts, a black mask, rufous wings, and a yellow eye-ring.
It uses humid lowland forest, moist montane forest, and shrubland, and eats large insects and lizards.
