The current name is Phlegopsis borbae, but Willis's 1968 field paper used the former genus name Skutchia borbae. It records dull russet plumage and birds following army-ant swarms to feed.
Willis, writing under the former name Skutchia borbae, described both sexes as dull cinnamon-rufous to brown, with a pectoral band of dusky and whitish bars.
Willis's field study records the bird low in mature tropical forest, following army ants and darting at arthropods disturbed by them.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
