A lowland forest bird of West-Central Africa, also recorded in older secondary growth and forest–grassland mosaics. Records reach 650 m.
It has a strong yellow loral spot in front of the eye and dark eyes. Cornell Clements contrasts these marks with the yellow-eyed Bleda ugandae.
It searches among dense foliage for insects and other small invertebrates.
