The Kinglet Calyptura is a small bird with a conspicuous crest. Its ecology is very poorly documented; an early account describes pairs in the middle levels of forest feeding on fruit and insects. Known records are concentrated in a very small area of southeastern Brazil, and there have been no reliable observations since 1996.
A study comparing museum specimens reports crest colors ranging from red through orange to yellow. Males tend to have more red in the crest than females; the male forehead is described as yellowish and the female's as dark olive-green.
Reliable ecological observations are extremely scarce. An early natural-history account describes pairs in the middle levels of forest, feeding on fruit and insects and keeping in contact with loud calls.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
