Sanford's brown lemur inhabits forests in northern Madagascar. Males have conspicuous cheek fur, and females differ in coat color.
Males grow long fur from the cheeks beside the ears. Females are gray to brown, giving the sexes a different appearance.
It eats fruit and other plant material, and also takes invertebrates at times. This follows the Duke Lemur Center account for the species.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
