The PTFI Mimika guide uses the older combined name Paramythia (montium) olivacea. In its 2023 taxonomy, eBird separates Western and Eastern Crested Berrypeckers and places the western species in central New Guinea’s mountains. The guide’s plumage and habitat notes are local to Mimika.
The Mimika guide describes a blue body and tail, green wings, yellow undertail, dark face and black-and-white crest. The current eBird taxonomy distinguishes the western species by its black nape.
For the Mimika highlands, the guide lists upper-montane and subalpine forest and shrubland near the tree line.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
