The Lavender Waxbill is a small finch native to West Africa. It has also been introduced to the Hawaiian Islands. Cornell's current page uses the genus Glaucestrilda; this entry retains the pool's name.
Males are silvery gray with a pale throat and chest, a thick purplish bill, and a bright red tail and rump. Females are similar but have darker underparts.
It uses grassland with scattered trees or shrubs, field edges, roadside vegetation, and thickets. It feeds mainly on grass seeds and often occurs in pairs or small flocks.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
