A small bird of evergreen forests from mainland Southeast Asia to southern China and nearby regions. It stays near the forest floor and has fine streaks on its brown body.
Its brown plumage has fine streaking and scale-like markings, and its face is grayish.
It is shy and searches for small invertebrates among leaf litter and low cover on the forest floor.
