The male has a large orange-red breast patch, and the species lives in the mountain forests of northern Luzon in the Philippines. Specific food records are limited.
An early Philippine bird account describes the adult male with a red crown, dark cheeks, a gray neck and upper breast, red on the wings, and a vivid orange-red breast patch.
It has been recorded from lowland dipterocarp forest through montane and mossy forest. Birds were reported using leafy tree crowns during the hottest part of the day. Specific food records are scarce; a suggestion that it eats figs is speculative.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
