This large raptor is recorded in forests on Flores Island. A survey report describes black tail bars and observations of birds flying in pairs.
The field report describes five black bands across the tail and a contrasting black line at the wing tip in flight.
A 2011-2012 survey recorded it in lowland, submontane and montane forest around Ruteng Nature Recreation Area and Mbeliling Forest Reserve. Survey observers more often saw pairs flying together than single birds.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
