The Australian Shelduck is a large duck with a dark head, white neck ring, and chestnut breast. It occurs in freshwater areas of southwestern and southeastern Australia.
Males have a green-tinged black head and neck, a white neck ring, and a chestnut breast. Females also have a chestnut breast, but show a white eye-ring.
It grazes on grass on land or in shallow water and also eats algae, insects, and molluscs. Some birds move to distant wetlands to moult after breeding.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
