This large albatross breeds on islands south of New Zealand.
BirdLife's description of White-capped Albatross (T. cauta steadi) notes a white cap, pale silver-grey face, dark brow and a black thumbmark at the base of the underwing.
The ACAP assessment lists fish, cephalopods, crustaceans and tunicates in its diet. It takes prey at the surface and by diving; birds often follow ships, and offal may be a significant food source.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
