The Amethyst Woodstar is a small hummingbird recorded widely in South America. A male’s throat can be iridescent purple in breeding plumage and much duller outside that period.
In breeding plumage the male has an iridescent purple throat. In eclipse plumage, the same male can have a dull grayish throat.
It uses forest edges, scrub, savanna, and grassland, feeding on nectar while hovering or flying.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
