Buettikofer’s shrew is a medium-sized shrew with dark chocolate-brown fur on its back. It occurs in grasslands and forest patches, where it feeds on spiders, ants, beetles, termites, and other small animals.
The dorsal fur is dark chocolate-brown, while the underside is paler grayish-brown. Its limbs are dark, and its relatively long tail has sparse hairs and bristles.
Stomach contents from 28 animals in Taï National Park, Côte d’Ivoire, most often contained spiders and ants. Beetles, termites, and other small invertebrates were also recorded; most prey were 15 mm or less.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
