This rodent is endemic to Brazil’s Caatinga. Its grizzled-brown back contrasts with bright-orange hairs on the rump, around the eyes and on the ears, muzzle, hands, and feet. A study in Caruaru often recorded collected specimens in nests.
The dorsal fur is grizzled brown. Bright-orange hairs cover the rump, periocular area, ears, muzzle, hands, and feet; the orange ring around the eyes can be narrow or incomplete.
In a Caruaru specimen study, many collected individuals were found in nests, often in hedges of Aveloz. The authors note that hand searching may have biased collection toward these predictable nest sites.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
