This vlei rat is recorded at two sites in northwestern Ethiopia. It has a bright reddish-brown back and a pale yellowish-gray underside.
The back is bright reddish brown and the underside pale yellowish gray. The ears are dark, and the tail is short.
The revision reports two northwestern Ethiopian localities. One was low Acacia scrub, while the area around the type locality had become agricultural land.
