The Grey Pileated Finch is a South American finch found in Brazil, Colombia, and Venezuela. It searches for seeds on the ground and low shrubs; males can raise a red crest.
Males have a red crest within a black crown, a grey body, and a white eye-ring. Females lack the red crest; juveniles have strong dark streaks on the breast and flanks.
It feeds mainly on seeds on the ground and low shrubs, and also takes insects and other arthropods. In the Caatinga it may gather in large flocks at scarce water sources.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
