Dark grey to sooty black covers the head and upper breast, with yellow bare skin around the eyes. It forages mainly in the canopy for small fruits and insects.
Adults have sooty black to dark grey on the head, neck, breast, and upper belly, with yellow bare skin around the eyes. This area can become bright red when the bird is agitated. Male and female plumage is alike.
It feeds at different vegetation levels, especially in the canopy and treetops. Small fruits are its main food; it also takes insects attracted to flowers and seeds.
It sometimes gathers in small groups where food is plentiful.
Short cream or buff streaks mark the sides of the breast, belly and flanks, merging into pale ochre on the lower belly and undertail coverts.
The irises are dark brown to reddish brown, and the bill and legs are grey-black.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
