This tanager lives in lowland tropical forest in northern and central South America. Its vivid blue-green body and iridescent rump give it its name.
The body is deep turquoise-blue, with black back and wings and an iridescent opalescent patch on the lower back or rump.
It is highly arboreal, moving through the canopy in small flocks and eating small fruits, berries, nectar and insects. It is also recorded at forest edges, riverside forest and secondary growth.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
