This cuckoo lives in open woodland and savanna across parts of sub-Saharan Africa. In southern Africa it lays its eggs in Fork-tailed Drongo nests.
Adults are mostly gray, with fine bars across the breast and belly. The tail has broad white bars, and the base of the bill is yellow to orange.
It mainly eats caterpillars. In southern Africa it parasitizes Fork-tailed Drongos: the male distracts the hosts while the female enters the nest.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
